Supported Living Specialist
Working Roommate Opportunity - Walk to Starbucks, Shopping, Dining!
The ideal candidate will have a happy disposition,
smile a lot, be positive and supportive of individual choices. Loving
to shop and an affinity for Harry Potter a plus!
- Nestled in the serene Saratoga
Village - one block from the downtown with views of downtown
and mountains from the kitchen and surrounded by oak trees.
- 3 bedroom house with office, activity
room, office and 2 full bathrooms, full indoor laundry, and wood
floors.
- Housecleaners come to do heavy work every other week.
- Must be able to use stairs in this 2-story house that is located
on the side of a hill.
Roommate Requirements:
Non Smoker
No pets (client will consider 1 cat)
Must be able to work overnight shifts 10 pm -6am (sleep rate) and
6-9 am (regular rate) shifts on the following days of overnight
shifts.
Low rent and utilities, private room, in a great location!
Paid sleep rate 10pm - 6 am and day rate when scheduled.
References required.
You will learn, understand and implement the supported living concept.
The specialist will establish and maintain a constructive and appropriate
personal relationship with consumers to minimize risks of endangerment
to the health, safety, and well-being of consumers while promoting
their full participation in their community, encouraging their active
role in socialization, building relationships outside of the staff
and continuing to build skills that promote a consumer's social
structure and positive reputation and interaction within their community.
Reports to the Supported Living Services Coordinator
Qualifications
Must possess the ability to work effectively for and with individuals
with developmental disabilities and have the following skills:
Be able to work effectively for and with individuals who have intellectual
and behavioral differences.
- Effectively support consumer's to develop a community network
in their community.
- Be able to act independently and function as part of an overall
team.
- Keep accurate service delivery records.
- Good judgment, common sense and reasoning skills a must.
- Good communication skills and a willingness to listen.
- Approved Criminal History Check by the Department of Justice.
- urrent TB test, CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Be least 21 years of age.
- Ability to speak, read and write in English.
- Proven organizational skills, prioritizing tasks and time management
skills.
- Internet skills and basic use of Word and other applications,
will train.
- Ability to complete basic arithmetic computations and perform
tasks such as balancing a checkbook and recording expenditures.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends,
overnights, and holidays.
Applicants must also have/become:
- CA driver's license and clean driving record.
- Reliable automobile with current Auto Insurance, including liability
- minimum suggested $300,000.
- Driving record that meets agency standards
- California Mandated Reporter and Signed Confidentiality Statement

Duties (Specific for each individual)
A primary duty of a Supported Living Support Specialist (SLSS)
is to enhance the ability of the consumer to lead a self-determining
life by providing the support and information necessary to build
self-esteem, and assertiveness to make decisions. To accomplish
these duties, the SLSS will understand the consumer's preferences,
have read their ISP and be oriented to the goals and understand
for respective consumers. The SLSS's will facilitate and teach daily
living routines to maximize skills, abilities, and independence.
Specific duties include within shifts as appropriate:
- Assist people who receive our services to share places, and
develop a positive reputation and status with people in their
community.
- Assist consumers in making healthy and safe choices that affect
their life in their community.
- Assist consumers to grow in their relationships with others
in their community.
- Provide direct training and related support services to people
who receive our services.
- Activities of Daily living:
o Dressing including appropriate selection weather related clothing,
dressing where needed and shoe tying.
o Assistance with hair care, nails care, oral care, and toileting.
o Assistance in showering and shampooing.
o Meal planning, preparation and eating regulation.
o Preparing for day program, bedtime routine, and waking.
- Household maintenance:
o Household duties including laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting,
dishes, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen at least once each week,
or as needed.
o Grocery shopping as scheduled.
- Health Maintenance:
o Medication: Administer and chart medications and treatments
as per doctor's orders.
o Provide basic first aid as needed.
o Communicate health issues to the Coordinator and Conservator/Family.
o Schedule and attend medical appointments for the person supported
as appropriate and directed.
- Safety/Security
o Security: Check emergency equipment weekly. Check locks daily.
o Safety: Check for potential safety hazards on a daily basis.
o Review safety rules for each consumer to ensure their specific
needs are met.
o Assist with contacting landlord or the Coordinator for needed
emergency repairs.
o Other duties as agreed upon by the Supported Living Coordinator
and the Executive Director.
Hourly rate: Commensurate with experience within industry standard
